No fewer than three hundred students participated in the15th Matriculation Ceremony of Al-Qalam University Katsina for the year 2019/2020 academic session which took place online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ceremony was streamed live on the U-tube channel of the university for Parents of the students and invited guests to follow the virtual ceremony held on Wednesday, 5th August 2020.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu GarkiAdo congratulated the students saying that the matriculation is unique being the first of its kind in the history of the university.
He stated that ‘’ You are aware that the university has focused on digital literacy by engaging students with academic activities online since June, 2020. It is in the same spirit, that the university is holding this Virtual Matriculation Ceremony for fresh students, so as not to waste time as it seems there is still more days left to really come through the Covid-19 pandemic’’.
The Vice-Chancellor admonished the students to work hard and justify their stay in the university,stressing that as an islamic oriented institution, the students should shun unwanted social behaviours not only on campus but where ever they find themselves.
Prof. Ado thanked the University Council, the Katsina Islamic Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the University for giving his Management full support to foster the development of the University.
Earlier, the Registrar, Sani Abashe Adamu has enjoined the students to availthemselves with provisions contained in the Students Handbook to fully understand the rules and regulations governing their stay in the university.
He stressed that ‘’Students should be careful not to engage in examination malpractices and any un-islamic attitudes during students’ graduation season, such as log out and sign out parties, all of which are not acceptable by our rules and regulations’’.
Highlight of the ceremony was when the students were virtually presented before the Vice-Chancellor and thereafter, recited the oath of allegiance which co-opted them into the family of Al-Qalam University Katsina.
