As part of preparation for reopening of higher institutions in Kastina State, staff of Al-Qalam University attended a one day training on Covid- 19 preventive guidelines on Thursday, 15th October, 2020.
More than three hundred academic and nonacademic staff attended the training which took place at Muhamnad Lawal Kaita Auditorium of the university.
Health experts accompanied by Special Assistant to Katsina State Governor on Higher Education, Dr. Bashir Usman Ruwangodiya, facilitated the training aimed at sensitising staff on safety measures to protect themselves and students from the virus.
While introducing the health experts, Dr. Ruwangodiya stated that in fighting the virus the university community must take collective responsibility as everyone is vulnerable in a school setting.
“The first thing, is to believe that Covid-19 is real and only then we can work as committed members of the university community in fighting the virus by protecting ourselves, our office colleagues and also ensure that our students are complying with the preventive measures”. He stressed.
Dr. Ruwangodiya expressed satisfaction with the way the university is enforcing wearing of facemask, applying hand sanitizer and temperature check among staff and visitors, urging staff to pay serious attention to the training.
In a welcome address, Vice-Chancellor, Al-Qalam University, Prof. Shehu G. Ado stated that the university started preparation for reopening in August, 2020 with a committee set up under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor to study and work towards complying with conditions for reopening of universities nationwide issued by the National Universities Commission, the Federal Ministry of Education and those of Katsina State Government. Prof. Ado explained that in line with the guidelines, the university has significantly succeeded in applying social distancing to decongest students’ hostels, lecture halls, library, use of school bus while the university environment has been fumigated.
