(1) The Chairman, Governing Board of Al-Qalam University Katsina, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura was born in 1938 at Zangon Daura in Katsina State. He started his elementary education in 1944 before he proceeded to Katsina Middle School from 1948 to 1952 and then school for Arabic Studies, Kano from 1953 to 1957.
Immediately after he graduated from the school for Arabic Studies Kano, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura was employed as a teacher and posted to Daura Central Elementary School. He was also a teacher at Daura Senior Primary School and later at Dutsinma Senior Primary School before he moved on to take appointment with his alma mater, the School of Arabic Studies, Kano also as a teacher in 1959. In 1961, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura proceeded to the University Tutorial College, London and in 1963 he was at the University of Lagos where he completed his degree programme in 1966.
Having acquired the necessary experience as a class teacher, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura changed his career in 1966 when he joined the services of the defunct Northern Nigerian Regional Government as an Administrative officer. He was first posted to the Ministry of Education, Kaduna but after some few months, he was transferred to the then Ilorin province in Kwara State and served as Assistant District Officer, Borgu division under the late Sulyman Abbo Jimeta.
Due to his thoroughness, Alhaji Sani Zagon Daura was appointed Commissioner for Information, Adult Education and Public Enlightenment by the North Central State and served from 1968 to 1972. He also served as the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare from 1972 to 1975. Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura was equally appointed as the Care-taker, Chairman of Daura Local Government from 1976 to 1977.
At this point, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura went into real politics and became a delegate to the Constituent Assembly which was set up by the Administration of Late General Murtala Mohammed in 1977 and which ultimately produced the 1979 constitution for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura was also a delegate to the Constitutional Conference set up by late General Sani Abacha in 1994 which also produced the 1999 Constitution.
These political engagements of Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura made him a readily suitable candidate for Ministerial Appointments. With the advent of democracy in 1999, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura served as the Minister of Agriculture from 1999 to 2002 and also the Minister of Environment from 2002 to 2003.
Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura is a teacher, Administrator, Great Politician, Businessman and an Elder Statesman. He is presently the Chairman, Governing Board of Al-Qalam University, Katsina and Maryam Endowment Fund.
Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura is a recipient of National Honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (con) and is also holding the traditional title of Dan-Masanin Daura in Daura Emirate Council.
